Hello MRUSD Community

Sorry for the late notice for the delay this morning.  I want to inform you of our procedures for calling a delay or snow day.

For calling snow days, we watch the weather and work with the National Weather Service for timing and predicted precipitation amounts twice a day straight from the Burlington, Vermont office at least two days prior to the storm.   The day before, the regional superintendents are in communication and share local information until 5:30 am on the day of the storm to know what is happening in the micro-climates across the Champlain Valley.  In addition, I check in with road crews and the bus company by 5:30. We must make the call by 5:45 as it takes at least 30 minutes for the communication systems to announce a delay or cancellation.

This morning we checked in with everyone by 5:30, and we were clear to go, as were the rest of the school districts in Franklin and Grand Isle counties.  At 6:30, we started to receive reports of freezing rain, as did two other school districts in our area.  By 6:40, we put into place our communication system to delay school, but it took until 7:00 am for the communication system to start to notify our community.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,
Bill Kimball
